Christchurch International Airport Ltd - BMS Review Implementation Status
In April 2009 Enercon conducted a Building Management System (BMS) Review at Christchurch International Airport (CIAL). The BMS Review identified a number of opportunities that have significantly reduced energy consumption and cost.
Since the Review was completed, CIAL has implemented almost all of the identified opportunities. The largest opportunities identified include:
- Switching the Domestic boilers to operate on diesel rather than LPG
- Optimising the fresh air flow into the Air Handling Units utilising CO2 control
Figure 1 shows the dramatic reduction in monthly energy consumption since the implementation of the BMS Review (implementation was completed in June 2009).
Figure 1 – CIAL Monthly Energy Consumption per unit area
Based on the above graph and associated analysis, CIAL has reduced annual energy consumption by 12.2%. This equates to total cost savings of $350,000 + GST. This is a fantastic result.
Furthermore as shown above, CIAL has now exceeded the target 5.0% reduction in energy consumption (kWh/m².yr) over July 2007 – June 2008. This goal was achieved 17 months prior to the target date of June 2011.
Overall this has been a very successful project for both CIAL and Enercon. The savings achieved by implementing the BMS Review will ensure CIAL’s long term energy cost and consumption is minimised.
