Design Audits provide an effective tool to improve the comfort, energy and maintenance cost of a facility before it is built or renovated. Enercon offers energy efficiency design assistance that can vary from simple reviews to very detailed energy computer simulations. We are able to optimise the capital cost of the mechanical systems, building fabric and operational strategies with the expected energy costs and provide recommendations based on economic feasibility.
Enercon has successfully undertaken Design Audits for many companies and organisations around New Zealand, including airports, hospitals, universities, events centres, swimming pools, schools, general office buildings, bakeries, dairy plants and other industrial facilities. Design audits by Enercon often uncover 20-25% energy savings compared to default design, at feasible payback periods.
Enercon can provide Energy Modelling from a residential scale (e.g. PassiveHaus requirements) through to multi-building sites. Commercial building upgrades that are typically investigated include, but are not limited to: double glazing, insulation, shading, natural ventilation, heat recovery, lighting, controls, domestic hot water, HVAC central plant, HVAC operational strategy and airflow studies. Enercon are experts with state of the art simulation software which allows full exploration of these upgrades.
EECA funding for commercial building design audits is available through Enercon depending on the project.
EECA funding is also available for industrial design audits. Systems covered under the Design Audit scope can include:

- Industrial refrigeration (cool stores, cold stores and process cooling)
- Process heat systems (including boilers, furnaces and industrial heat pumps)
- Pumping and fans (cooling water, effluent and fume extraction)
